my first 30g FOWLR tank

Post by chevyguy86 on Wed May 06, 2009 4:42 pm

just finished the 6 week cycle of the tank last week and I have added the following

4 hermit crabs and a cleaner shrimp a week ago at the end of the cycle

2 blue damsels
1 percula clown

30g gallon
20 gallon RO water (of course)
55lbs live rock
4inch live sand bed
reef octopus skimmer
dual T5 lighting
blue background (which looks crappy right now due to water getting in between background and glass during skimmer setup)
2 koralia #3 powerheads.(just got delivered this morning, setting up tonight)
6 blue 170 degree 13,000MCD led's for moonlighting

next week I am going to pick up a lemonpeel angel, a feather duster and a carpet anemone

still learning how to take tank shots with new camera, so it's not the best photo Rolling Eyes

It looks like you're off to a great start, nice going. If I were you I would wait off on adding an anemone until you're tank has a lot more time to mature. You're tank is to young for an addition like that.

I'll 2nd the advice on the anemone. A mature and stable tank is best for this addition (6 month+).
You may also want to consider beefing up your lighting for the anemone.

anenome cancelled

I will take your advice and scratch the anemone, however, i figured a 18k T5, and a actinic T5 would be plenty of light for just about anything.

Are the T5s high output or normal output. The 18k refers only to the colour spectrum not the "light" output (lumens). For a rough (and dirty) calculation consider targeting 3 to 4 watts of light per tank gallon to keep anemones happy. This is only a rule of thumb. I do know of others on this site that have achieved success with less lighting.
