Phase 1

Jan 5/ 09

I convince my wife to switch from freshwater to salt water, which proved to be a daunting task due to the fact that 3 years ago i had a salt water set up in the same tank and lost about 5k worth of fish to lack of education poor management. However, enough complaining and she seems to think it will shut me up for a while.

Happy wife = happy life.

So here's my tank progress.

Tank's an all glass custom size. Initially I wanted to go with a 24" cube, but then decided on this, since there wasn't a price difference between the two .

Tank size is 36w X 24d X 24h. gives me about 90 g. I went with this size cause I like the added height and depth the tank has. There is about 120 lbs of live rock in the tank, (Doesn't look like it, but the tank is bigger in person than it looks on the pic)..

So, im starting to put together all the equipment for the conversion of my 28g. I got the light a while ago, and today I got the protein skimmer. I also have the salt and hydrometer. I still have to get the 2 Koralia 1 powerheads for flow, a heater, a better thermometer and a master test kit, in the next couple of weeks I'll get all of that.

Before I can install any of this I have to rehome all of the fish in my tank currently, some are going into my big tank and the rest to my friend... ...

I've decided to make the switch from fresh water to salt. It's a 90 gallon tank and i currently own a Rena x4 canister filter. However, the fish store guy says that I have to switch to a sub tank filter system to ensure a successful tank. The short term will be ok, but in the long run a canister filter will cause all sorts of problems. Not sure if hes just trying to sell me a system or if he's telling the truth.

Any help would be much appreciated.
