FEATHER DUSTERS - HARMLESS
Feather dusters are one of those groups of animals that come both as hitch hikers, and as animals we buy to add to the tank. The difference is relative size. A tank can be crowded with hundreds of individuals of some smaller species of feather dusters that build mud like tubes. These tend to stay relatively small, but may bloom into huge population sizes as the tank progresses and matures. As available nutrients decline, the population of these worms generally decline as well. No action needs to be taken to remove them.
Other species of feather dusters may make their home in the rockwork, and may not be as numerous as other forms. All feather dusters are filter feeders, and trap small particles in the fine "feathers" of their tentacles.

thanks
Generally means they are stressed. The worms will sometimes create new tubes but most often they die. I have had a few that popped their heads. They eventually grow back if you don't screw around too much with the tube. To check and see if the worm is still in the tube after they pop a head just lightly grab the middle of the tube. If you feel it "flex" the worm is fine and the new head will appear in about a month.

Go easy on the liquid food. I have never fed my FD and I have about 10. they are filter feeders and will catch food in the water column. Scraping the glass will feed them as well. I do not recommend phytoplankton and/or anything like Marine Snow will cause more problems than good in your tank. Huge algae blooms, slime, hair. I speak from experience, a bad experience.
