ASM (All Seas Marine) Protein Skimmer Info
Designed as an in sump skimmer.
Features the Sedra pump utilizing needle wheel technology
A number of models available starting with the Mini or Baby(~$130) rated for a 75g tank up to the G6 (~$700) rated for a 1200g tank.
I use the G2 on my 90g mixed reef tank.
Specs: sedra 3500 pump, footprint 10X11, body diameter 6.5", Height 21.25", rated for 200g. A more realistic rating would be for 100g moderatly stocked tank. Works well for my needs at a reasonable price (~$240).
Several modifications can be found on-line that will improve performance. The most popular is the mesh mod. The needles (pins) on the pump impeller are removed and replaced with a fibre mesh. The theory is that this mesh chops the bubbles finer creating more water contact thus improving overall skimmer performance.
Edit: Recently told of another modification to the needle wheel impeller where a fine fishing line is woven around the pins to form a spider web like appearace that then tacked into place with crazy glue. I tried this mod and can confirm there is a marked improvement in performance. Time will tell if this modification holds up. Will provide feedback as time goes on.
