Skimmer questions

I recently started my 90 gallon tank and I wanted to put on my Seaclone 100 and my ODYSSEA PS 75 skimmers on. I know they might not be the best skimmers in the world but they should the job right?

They will be better than nothing....... Keep a check on you DOC'c and perform frequent water changes and it should all be good...... If your gonna stock the tank heavily you might want to upgrade asap....Also google "seaclone mods" to increase skimmate.... I added a mj1200 and modded the a seaclone 150 and it worked awesome untill I had the cash for my current skimmer (ETSS Reef Devil)

As painful as this may be to hear I must agree with shayneh. The seaclone is better than nothing and thats about it...but on the positive side the maxijet is a nice little pump . By all means run with the seaclone for now but put a skimmer high on your tank upgrade short list. Until the upgrade comes keep your fish stocking levels low and avoid (or limit) purchases of corals that like to be fed meaty foods regularly such as open brains, frogspawn, sun polyps, dendros, etc.
Spending your hard earned money on a high(er) end skimmer is difficult (I know, I've been there) but it really will pay off in maximizing your success in this hobby. You will almost certainly note improved water quality and an improved appearance in your livestock.

If money isn't a huge concern I would strongly consider the Deltec MCE-600. Quite simply one of the best skimmers to be had but definitely at a price.
If money is a problem I would suggest the Aqua Remora or as a somewhat lower choice the superskimmer 125 or 220.

What ever you decide to purchase (and this is especially true with regards to lower priced skimmers) keep in mind that the manufacturers often boast a skimming capability that is how shall I say it...optimistic One can safely assume that if the manufacturer states that their skimmer will take care of a 100gallon tank a more realistic expectation would be for it to perform well on a 50 to 75 gallon tank. Of course I am speaking in very general terms. So much depends on tank stocking levels.

Now get out there and buy that Deltec

Hey guys how bout a Tunze 9005? I can have one 9 months old for 175.00$, do you think it would be powerful enought?

I have not personally run a Tunze skimmer but the company does have a solid reputation. There are very few bad reports on the product in the more popular reefer web sites.
Tunze 9005 should be fine so long as your bioload remains to the moderate side. IMO it is superior to the " if money is an issue" options of the AquaRemora or the Superskimmer I suggested earlier.

One thing you may wish to consider with regards to the Tunze is that I think the 9005 is an in tank model which will take up some of your realestate.

I know but do you think that the 9005 can run the show alone? Or should I keep perhaps my Odyssea 75 thats works prety good on there two...

Manufacturer specs for the 9005 claim it is rated for a 132 gallon tank. So for your 90 gallon tank (90 g filled to the brim which it won't be), minus the water displaced for sand and liverock you will end up with 65 to 70 gallons of water if you don't run a sump. Using the most conservative estimate and assuming the skimmer is only good for 50% to 60% of what the manufacturer says the unit is capable of skimming I would say the Tunze alone should suit your purposes just fine.

Has anybody tried or heard anything of the biocube skimmer. I'm just setting up my new 29 gal. biocube reef tank and have one of the skimmers on order. Any info would be great.

it also depends on how heavily stocked your tank is..

If its not to late cancel that BioCube skimmer order. The best thing I can say about them is that they are beter than nothing (barely). Are you located in the KW area. If so you can pm me and I'll give you the one I have.

If you aren't into modifying your BC just stick to weekly water changes. They'll do a better job controlling your nitrates.

Thanks for the offer, but....I'm in London. I guess I will have to give it a try and keep up on the water changes as well. I'll let you know how it goes.
