29 gal. Biocube fish

Post by R33f3r on Sat Jun 20, 2009 6:56 pm

Hey all,

I was wondering if anybody had any good ideas as to what should be the last fish I put in my biocube? I currently have 2 clowns, royal gramma, cleaner shrimp and a few snails and crabs. For corals I have pulsing xenia, green star polyps, zoa's, branching hammer and colt coral. I was hoping to get something coulorful and cool. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks,

Maybe a flame angel, but it might not get on well with the Royal. Hawkfish are kind of cool. Purple firefish are kind of cool as well.
So many fish to choose from...so little space Sad

Will the flame angel eat my coral? I really want one of them

No personal experience with the flame angel, but like Frosty my coral beauty hasn't ever touched a coral (knock on wood).

To bad you're in London R33f3r. Big Al's in Mississauga has flames on for $49 this week. Did I just hear you say road trip? Laughing

The LFS I deal with (Incredible Aquariums) has some coming in a few weeks for 59.99. So I think I would waste more then $10 gas going to Mississauga.

On another note......will my royal gramma and the flame angel get along or is that also hit and miss?

Never mind my first post where I said the flame and gramma may not get along well...I had coral beauty on the brain for some reason. Flame and the gramma should be fine (but like with all fish there are no rules).

Just to add to Matt's comment on Flame Angels and Coral Beauty's getting along, I have to agree that some do and some dont. I have a friend that has tried twice to have one of each in his tank that is almost the same size and configuration as my tank and both times his coral beauty has taken out the Flame angel he tried to add. Mine have been together for over 2 years and I keep telling him that he should have put the flame in first like I did, but that comment is more just to bug him because I have been lucky so far with my pair not trying to kill each other and I dont really know if which order you add them makes a difference but it does tick off my buddy when I say it.....lol

Just another side question, how many fish can you put into a 29 gal. biocube. I do weekly water changes and have good quality live rock, so do you think 5 would be ok?

5 smaller fish should be ok but in my opinion at 5 you are really reaching the outer limit.

As to how many fish you can have, it is hard to say really. I have a 24G Nano Cube and I have 4 fish in it.
1) 2 Darwin Clowns
2) Dottyback
3) Red Manderin Dragonette

These 4 fish seem to get on well. Though in my opinion would be a bit much depending on the size pf the fish. (ie: bigger fish means more waste)
