Gobies

I'm setting up a SW 28g bowfront tank(as many of you know) and am wondering about what type of goby I should get. I will have live sand/rock, and a protein skimmer, lighting im not sure about but it shouldnt really matter(until I get corals).

I will be stocking either 2 Percula or 2 Occelaris clowns and want to add a goby. I want a goby that will sift through the sand a little bit but am new to SW and dont know the best goby for that. Any help is appreciated.

It depends on how deep your sand bed is.. A yellow watchman gobie is one of my favorites, I believe they pair with a pistol shrimp, very cool to watch. Sometimes you can buy the gobie and shrimp as a pair. I'm gonna hook you up with an US link to an online store that has lots to choose from.. This is where I get my fish. I don't have a LFS near me. they have great explinations of the fish.. Just an FYI the Catilina gobies do not last long in our home tanks, They need much cooler water than we have in our tanks

Thank you! Do you think that a pistol shrimp and a yellow goby will be happy in a 28g tank with two clowns?? If so, I think I'm getting both. I've seen some videos on you tube of the shrimp and goby paired up, its a neat bond they form.

In one, I thought the goby was wandering through the shrimps territory and the shrimp was trying to scare it off, I guess not. They looks like a lot of fun.

Yep I think they would be perfectly happy there. the clowns will stay up towards the top and middle. the gobie/shrimp pair will stay at the bottom. Be aware a pistol shrimp can sound like a mantis shrimp, they both have a loud "popping" sound. So don't be alarmed thinking it is a mantis.

Lol, I know what they both look like, and am able to tell the difference looking at them, so I'm not too worried about it.

It was the sound, they both make a loud clicking sound. Some people freak out and tear apart their whole tank, forgetting they have a pistol...

another great sand sifting goby is a Sleeper Banded goby, this guy isnt just a bottom dewller he swins all over, and sifts like a champ, he keeps my sand bed white at all times..i have him in my 55g with..

2 percs
1 sixline wrasse
coral banded shrimp
snails,hermits
coco worm..

hes a great addition,,

My only knock on the sifting gobies I had was that it for some reason like to try and bury my most expensive corals.

Thanks again sabrina, my lfs usually has them seperated but I heard they form pairs relatively easy. Pembro, thats funny that the sand sifting goby swims all over while most non sand sifters chill on the bottom.
