90 gallon build log

Post by cheech on Mon Dec 01, 2008 12:12 pm

So here's my tank progress.

Tank's an all glass custom size. Initially I wanted to go with a 24" cube, but then decided on this, since there wasn't a price difference between the two .

Tank size is 36w X 24d X 24h. gives me about 90 g. I went with this size cause I like the added height and depth the tank has. There is about 120 lbs of live rock in the tank, (Doesn't look like it, but the tank is bigger in person than it looks on the pic)..

Sand I used has a grain of .5 - 1.5

The sump/fuge is a 37 gallons, 24w x 20d x 18h.
center area will be used as a fuge with a DSB, I put about 7" of sand.

Finally, the lighting, (which should be installed this weekend) is a custom build I did, which has 2X 250 watt MHs, and 2 39w T5 attinics.

Right now everything is running very smoothly, I've got tons of copepods running around. I left the tank running for about 5 months before putting a single fish in it.

Parameters are all at zero. Last week I started stocking the tank, finally (pics to come) .

So far, in there, I got

1X foxface 2"
1X yellow Wrasse 1 1/2"
1X six line wrasse 1 1/2"
1X dragonette (often confused for a scooter blenny) red.

Updates to come.

Comments are welcome.

Thank you,

c

cheech

Thank you veryt much for your responses.

Here are a few pics I took last week. Tank has matured roughly 4-5 months since the last pics were taken.

I'm quite happy with the turnout so far. I've had no algae problems, and the tiny bit of cyno I had to deal with stopped with a water change and the addition of the protein skimmer.

Now for some frag shopping!! Very Happy

Looks like you've been busy Cheech. Nice looking tank!
Is that a Tunze skimmer in the sump? If so, any thoughts on it so far?

Thank you...

yeah, it's the Tunze 9010.. I purchased it because of its small footprint, fits snug in the first compartment of my sump/fuge.

So far, I like it. it comes with a whole bunch of brackets which enable you to set it up in different ways... i think they could have done a better job with that..

Setting up the skimmer, and adjusting it are very simple...

As for the skimming, it's been doing a great job.. lots of greenish brown slimy gunk...

With the addition of the skimmer, I definately noticed a change in the tank.. Water seems more clear, as I said before, any trace of cyno disappeared.

I would recomment the skimmer simply because of it's small design. besides that, if you have the space, I think for 450$, there are many other options of skimmers that would do a great job as well.

Very Nice.
I've got a few black clowns as well. They think they are the tank king pins. Are yours a little aggresive?
Probably going to get a tougher fish to sort them out.

Tank looks awesome, keep posting the pics.
