Photo period?? Empty Photo period??

Post by BurgerKing Tue Feb 24, 2009 8:47 pm

I was wondering if anyone had different photo periods like this person does, here's the link... http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2009-02/totm/index.php

and the photo periods he uses

Photo Period
9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.: Two 160w VHO super actinics
10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.: Four 39w T5-HO actinics plus
11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.: Four 400w 20,000K XM bulbs

I see that some do it but usually with crazy high tech setups. I only have a little light with 65W actinic, 65W daylight and 2x4W night LEDs. Just wondering what you think.

Thanks, Josh.

Is there any benefit in doing this? If so, I'll do it.

Here is a link to a decent but short read that I hope will help answer your question.

That was a really helpful link, thanks.

I was thinking of a photo period for my tank and this is what I came up with.

5 AM to 7 AM-LEDs
7 AM to 10 PM-Actinic
9 AM to 8 PM-Daylight
10 PM to 12AM-LEDs

I think that would be pretty good, I'd be happy to hear your opinions or improvements on this as you all have more experience than me.

Thanks, Josh.

with my setup the way it is works great i think cause my leds come on when the other lights are on and when the light go out the leds stay on so i can still see into the tank when its dark and also gives the fish a chance to settle down and go to sleep and fine there holes. and with the other lights coming on the way they do is good so so don't hit them with bright lights or just shut the lights off and leave them in the dark..
