Lots of photos of my tank
Now I do warn you again the pervious owner left it in a HUGE mess (I moved into a new house tank came with) It's 170 gallons.
Whole Tank
Lights From side(the back ones have been replaced
The lights are Life-glo T5 HO Premium Full Spectrum and Marine-glo T5 HO Actnic Blue Marine
The red "carpet" algea
Little guy pokes his head out (A damp....something?)
A side pic of him. I'm really starting to like this fish. You can tell the fish are doing better and less stressed. This little guy use to hide all the time with his fins down. Now he swims all over the tank and comes stares at me when I'm at the tank.
Sail Tang, photo doesn't really capture his color well. Since I got rid of the bigger guy he's become the "boss" fish but only bugs the Yellow tang at feeding time.
Yellow Tang, he has a small brown mark on his side after he crashed into a rock. Will that go away?(he's swimming much better now doesn't crash)
Now I'm going to post several pics of a fish I don't know what it is. I really thought this guy was going to die but he's doing so much better. Doesn't hide anymore and swims in the open water now. The big guy I got rid of was bitting him and was leaving white marks on him, they're all healed up now.
Here's the "main" filter. I have cleaned it up now
And just some pics
Whats growing on the rock there?
And the big guy I got rid of

A silver Scat I was told it was another damption or something like that. I don't know, it was attacking the little guy anyway and the black and white was scared of it too. I'd like other fish too and don't want to over load the tank.

Re: Lots of photos of my tank
The tank doesn't look too bad, is it green because of the camera, or the water is green?
Does it have a skimmer?
The filteration unit, is it a trickle filter or just a bunch of bioballs and sponges (or is that detritus lol?)
BTW: First fish is a 3 striped damsel.

Re: Lots of photos of my tank
Well honestly, nice bargain with the house, with a bit of work, this tank will be one of the main attractions of your home! I like the filtration how it was setup...Check your water parameters and if nitrates are high and well, put on a good skimmer and water changes and you will see the positif changes real soon!

Re: Lots of photos of my tank
Well I just got back from BIG ALS and the guys there's were amazed the fish are alive The nitaite levels are still sky high. I was really hoping after that 50% water change and filter cleaning it be down enough I could added a couple clowns.
So it looks like I'll be striping the tank I'll get a 40 gallon garbage can to keep the fish in for 30 hrs or so(I'll give them a filter and heater). Drain the tank, scrub it down and srub the live rock a bit but they said I could just turn it over to as there won't be alea on the bottom side so I won't go hard at it. It gives me a chance to change the gravel to live sand too which I REALLY wanted.
Since the fish have made it this long and it has to be a bit better then what it was two weeks ago the change is going to have to wait unil next week after SILS wedding.
The pics are mostly after I cleaned the tank up quite a bit. The sides and back were pure algea and the front was bad to, the white gravel was brown ect... ect... you get the idea.

Re: Lots of photos of my tank
i wouldn't just flip the rocks, the algae that was on the top would just start rotting in your sand bed. i've had to scrub algae off of my rocks before and as long as you don't have super hard bristles it won't hurt anything on your live rock.
edit: those looks like button polyps growing on that rock... i don't think that question has been answered yet

Re: Lots of photos of my tank
Well I scrubbed what I could(cut my hand not so nice in salt water!) I put the rock the best way I could that looked good(way to much to get it back the way it was) But some of it's upside down/sideways or back up right.
I don't know what they are but some little blueish plants sucked into the rock while I was cleaning it and lived through it all and have popped back out(They go in again when a fish trys to get them. Mainly the yellow Tang it eats everything!)

Re: Lots of photos of my tank
Well I hope the tank works out for you. I have had to battle high nitrates before and it is a pain in the @ss. I do honestly think that more water changes would have cleared it up for you.
As I have said before I live here in Cambridge also and I use the tap water here and have never had a problem with it. Also you keep mentioning Big Al's. I would like to recomend another store that I find a little better than Big Al's. Living Aquarium Tell him Ashley sent you in. You will find him a great source of information.

Re: Lots of photos of my tank
If you want I would suggest another 4 t5's and go mostly blue
10 000k along with high inorganics tend to grow algae more then 20 000k
