rock questions Empty rock questions

there isnt realy a place to put this so im tring here. i am getting 80lbs of dry rock. its been dry for a month, form a established tank, how long should i cycle it for? it will used for a 40 gallon reef tank and will be cycled in the tank with sand(new). how long should i wait to introduce live rock to it.live rock has a few pollys on it along with alge both red and green. any info would be great thanks:)

Depends on how nasty it was when it was removed from the original tank. Did it get cleaned before storage or just tossed in a bucket and forgotten? Easiest would be to give it a freshwater soak in ro/di for a while to reduce any remaining toxins and then cycle as long as possible in saltwater.

ok ty, its clean looking no chunks or anything, how long should it take for it to become live? i will probly only be adding 2-4 lbs of already cured liverock to it? would a life glo help the growth?

I can take upto a month or longer to cycle a tank. Check your perameters(ammonia, Nitrate) levels. Once they have zeroed it should be a safe time to start adding slowly to your tank. As for adding your dead rock it wll take some time to liven it up, especially in a newly establised tank. You can ask a fellow hobbyist with a reef tank that have been running awhile, for some rubble or a cup of their live sand to kick start you in the right direction.
